The capacity for rapid and comprehensive financial, economic and social measures, newly discovered in the Corona crisis, should not lead to a relaunch of the old polluting industries. Instead, it must be used to fight the escalating climate catastrophe. It is disproportionately more dangerous for our health and the economy, and has been raging for much longer.
A historic task holds us all responsible. The virus SARS-CoV-2 has the world on edge. Massive international action is being taken to contain the epidemic and prevent it from infecting a global economy that was booming until recently. But the fossil pandemic is far more dangerous than that.
The energy transition won’t be achieved top-down but bottom-up: by local actors who are the real heroes and changemakers of the energy transition. This year, EUROSOLAR will award the first renewable energy pioneers of the new decade.
