European Solar Prize 2025 – Apply now!

Bonn, 10th April 2025, EUROSOLAR e.V. and NRW.Energy4Climate have opened the application phase for the European Solar Prize 2025.

Applications and nominations for the European Solar Prize are now open and are to be submitted through our online portal. All projects must be realized and show tangible results. The key part of the application is a presentation highlighting aims, figures and benefits. Depending on the category, details on the approach, technologies, users, renewable energy production, financial benefits, or other core information may be important. Further information on the application and the jury’s evaluation criteria can be found online.

The call for entries is addressed to European cities and municipalities, architects, municipal and private companies, associations, organisations and cooperatives, journalists and committed people who actively support the energy transition with their projects and initiatives. The solar prizes are awarded in ten categories – from mobility solutions, solar architecture and urban development to projects in the fields of education, one-world cooperation and media.

Applications can be submitted until 30th June.

Wenn Sie oder Ihr Projekt aus Deutschland kommen, können Sie sich über den unten stehenden Link für den Deutschen Solarpreis bewerben.

About the European Solar Prize

The German and European Solar Prizes were established by Dr. Hermann Scheer (†), winner of the Alternative Nobel Prize. Since 1994, EUROSOLAR e.V. has awarded the prize to outstanding players in the energy transition for their commitment to renewable energies. The prize is awarded to special projects and initiatives that pursue a consistent and decentralized energy transition and play a pioneering role.

EUROSOLAR awards the most innovative renewable energy projects of Europe-wide and global importance: our planet needs your successful ideas and innovations.

Renewable Energy Diversity

In order to celebrate the diversity of successful renewable energy applications, EUROSOLAR awards the ESP in ten categories from municipalities to One-World-Cooperation, mobility solutions, solar architecture, urban development, businesses as well as projects, organisations and individuals in education and the media. An experienced, interdisciplinary and international expert jury selects the winners.

The Wealth of the European Solar Prize

EUROSOLAR has celebrated successful renewable energy innovations through the European Solar Prize since 1994. People, projects and organizations documented in the European Solar Prize archives establish a rich pool of regenerative practice for all Europeans, from practitioners to policymakers. Hundreds of winners of Europe-wide significance have thus been recognized and documented, together with EUROSOLAR’s important national prize programs awarded by its sections.

The European Solar Prize was last awarded in 2023. You can read about the announcement of the winners here.

This year, the German and European Solar Prizes will be awarded at the same ceremony in October.

Hermann Scheer: “My starting point is not renewable energy, but rather society – from the realisation of the fundamental importance of the energy transition for its future viability. I did not move from renewable energy to politics for this, but due to my view of the problem and my understanding of the political responsibility to renewable energy. The switch to renewable energy has a great historical significance. Therefore we must know how we can accelerate it. Renewable energies are not scarce, but time is.”
